9. Chrome Browser Extension
Social Gems IQ is a Chrome browser extension that overlays publicly visible Instagram creator analytics on pages you visit. This section describes how the extension specifically handles data, in addition to the general policy above.
What the extension reads
As you browse Instagram, the extension reads publicly visible data surfaced by Instagram's own pages — including creator follower counts, engagement metrics (likes, comments, views), post frequency, bio text, and profile information. This data is the same information any visitor would see on those Instagram pages.
The extension does not access your Instagram credentials, private messages, direct messages, or any content that is not publicly visible.
How data is stored locally
Creator metrics are cached in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local) for up to 48 hours to avoid redundant network requests. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly save a creator to a list. Signing out of Social Gems IQ clears all locally cached data immediately.
Your Social Gems authentication token and account identity are also stored in chrome.storage.local — not in cookies or web-accessible storage — and are inaccessible to other websites.
When data is sent to our servers
Creator metric data is transmitted to Social Gems servers (app.socialgems.io) only when you take an explicit action:
- Saving a creator to a campaign list
- Requesting lookalike creators for a specific profile
We do not passively upload browsing history or the creator profiles you view without saving.

No remote code execution
The extension does not load or execute code from external sources. All extension logic is contained within the installed package, in compliance with Chrome Web Store Manifest V3 requirements.
Opting out
You can uninstall the extension at any time from chrome://extensions. Uninstalling removes all locally cached data. To request deletion of any creator or account data stored on our servers, contact us at support@socialgems.io.
